Automatic list of Saharan dust episodes by island from the hourly AOD series.
We group each run with AOD above the operational threshold for several consecutive hours into a single episode. This is automatic detection for context, not a replacement for official bulletins.
Criteria
AOD 550 above the light dust threshold for at least 3 consecutive hours; if a gap exceeds 2 hours we start a new episode.
